MARIETTA – After being canceled in 2020, the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival returned to downtown Marietta on Friday and will run through Sunday at the Ohio River Levee.

The smell of freshly popped popcorn and fried funnel cakes filled the air Friday night as the 45th annual festival kicked off for the weekend.

Festival goers, volunteers, vendors and performers from across the Mid-Ohio Valley joined in the fun, listening to a variety of music. The Kona Ice truck was particularly popular as many attendees ordered a cup of ice cream which they were able to flavor themselves with the wave machine.

William Smrek, born September 11, said he was a huge fan of the festival.

“I have been coming intermittently since 1987”, said Épinette.

Ruby Erb, 2, left, cheers on her brother, Elijah Erb, 7, at the fishbowl carnival game Friday at the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in Marietta.

This year he was helping his wife Kim volunteer for the Little Miss and Mr. Sternwheel pageant. The couple’s daughter, Jordan, was crowned Queen Genevieve in 2016.

The paddle wheel festival will continue throughout the weekend.
