The Porsche Taycan is seeing massive demand with delivery estimates of up to six months, CEO Oliver Blume said. Demand for Porsche’s all-electric four-door sedan exceeded the company’s production capacity for 2021 in the first quarter alone.

“Our initial production capacity for the Taycan was 20,000 units this year – we sold that many in the first half of the year,” Blume said during a panel discussion at the IAA Mobility trade fair in Munich. The CEO of Porsche noted that “incoming orders are huge”, including from China.

In its U.S. second quarter 2021 retail sales records, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) reported that retail deliveries were up 55.5% from the same period in 2020. PCNA’s retail deliveries in the United States for 2021 total 18,958 vehicles, an unprecedented quarterly figure. save.

The popularity of the Taycan continued to accelerate in the second quarter of 2021, with Porsche surpassing all deliveries in 2020 in the first half of the quarter alone. The accelerated popularity of the Taycan was in part due to new variants of the all-electric four-door.

Taycan’s sales significantly exceeded sales of the Panamera, the automaker’s four-wheel ICE sedan, which is a bit larger than the all-electric vehicle. In the first quarter, Porsche sold 2,008 Taycan against 451 Panamera. The same was true in the second quarter, with 3,359 Taycan sales compared to 1,265 Panamera sales in the second quarter of 2021.

Porsche isn’t the only historic automaker to experience strong demand for its all-electric vehicle. Ford was also surprised by the popularity of the Mustang Mach-E GT.

The successes of the Porsche Taycan and the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT prove that the transition to all-electric vehicles is fast approaching. It also shows OEMs that being part of the change is worth the time, effort and investment.
