Things in tonight’s UFC 265 Pay-Per-View (PPV) Main Event (Saturday, August 7, 2021) went as people expected… until the end.

For the first two laps, Ciryl Gane separated Derrick Lewis on the outside, pulling away from “Black Beast” every time he charged his infamous right hands. But, in the third round, something changed. Gane stopped interrupting after each exchange. He charged in and faced Lewis one-on-one. And he won the war, beating Lewis along the cage and dropping him onto the canvas where the ground and the pound forced the referee to stop the fight.

Official verdict: a victory for Gane by technical knockout at 4:11 of the third round.

Watch the highlights here:

After the fight, Gane had a simple message for his former teammate and current non-interim UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou: “Let’s go.

Given that Gane didn’t take much damage, and Ngannou was quite upset that his September fight request wasn’t met, could we see the two go head to head as soon as possible? We would really like to see the heavyweight titles come together as soon as possible.

The win puts Gane to 7-0 in UFC (10-0 MMA), while Lewis drops to 15-6 in UFC (25-8 MMA).
