CLEAR WATER, Wisconsin – After the Grafton Aurora Medical Center employee admitted to voluntarily removing more than 500 Moderna vaccines from refrigeration over the weekend. The president of the medical center released more information today.
Dr Jeff Bahr began his statement today by reassuring the public about the safety of vaccines. He then explains that it was a pharmacist at the medical center who deliberately denatured the 57 vials over the weekend. Of these 57 vials, 57 doses were actually administered before these vaccines were considered less or ineffective. Dr Bahr assures that people who received these doses have been informed. He also says Moderna has confirmed that these doses will not harm those who received them.
Just hours ago, the pharmacist was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment, falsification of a prescription drug and criminal damage to property. The motive, however, is still unclear. Now the Grafton Police, the FBI, and the Food and Drug Administration are all investigating the case. This event raised concerns about the safe storage of these vaccines, as people wonder how this could have happened. Dr Bahr shared his confidence in their processes, considering them solid. Dr Bahr told WEAU,
“The very first steps we took were to review our processes and identify any shortcomings that could have led to this incident. It was clear that this was a situation involving a bad actor as opposed to a bad process. We certainly used this as an opportunity to have additional dialogue and learn more about our processes. You know we are first and foremost a safe, clinical business and we will remain so during and after that.
Dr Bahr says they are convinced that the 57 vials destroyed represent the extent of the damage, no other vaccine has been tampered with. Because around 500 doses had to be thrown away, Dr Bahr said Aurora Medical Center was able to secure additional shipments of Moderna vaccine from other locations. He also said the vaccination program at Aurora Medical Center, including in Grafton, will continue as planned.

(AP) – Authorities have arrested a pharmacist in suburban Milwaukee on suspicion of deliberately ruining hundreds of doses of the coronavirus vaccine by removing it from the refrigerator for two nights.
The Grafton Police Department said the former pharmacist Advocate Aurora Health was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment, tampering with a prescription drug and criminal damage to property.
The department said in a press release Thursday that he was in prison. Police did not identify the pharmacist, saying he had not yet been formally charged.
