We agree with a statement from State University of New York at Fredonia spokesperson Jeff Woodard regarding campus life. Put simply, Woodard noted that a lot has been done – thanks to technology – to keep tabs on what’s happening on the land that serves a population of over 4,400.

“SUNY Fredonia is a safe campus”, he said. “We have 300 security cameras, 30 blue light phones, a security app that students can download to their phones, and an accredited university police department, which is now working with local law enforcement to resolve this situation. “

Her comments came after a note sent to staff and students on Monday about an early morning incident near Ring Road and Park Drive when a suspect approached the female victims and assaulted them, tempting to take off their clothes. University police chief Brent Isaacson also noted that the victims repelled the assailant and were not physically injured.

Most importantly, the university has been proactive in letting everyone know about a potential predator. This gives additional credibility to the security of a campus.

When information about potentially dangerous incidents is not shared, this is when community members need to be concerned.
