Super Smash Bros. combat stats Ultimate are absolutely ridiculous, but what do they mean to the average gamer?

Billions you say?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate held their final presentation this week where Sora from Kingdom Hearts was of course announced as the last DLC character to join the massive crossover, but he’s not the only one. fat revelation made during the event.

Director Masahiro Sakurai shared how many billions of hours and billions of battles we’ve been through in Smash Ultimate over the past three years. What do these numbers mean to the average player?

Based on the statistics gathered, Smash players have spent over 2.2 billion hours playing the game, which is pretty insane considering that equates to 251,141 years of fighting friends and foes.

The best metric we have to compare that to the playerbase itself is the current number of copies sold, which is 24.77 million games, so we’ll be using that for the math in this story.

This means that the average copy of the game saw / player took around 88.8 hours for Ultimate, which seems a lot more reasonable, but also shows that the game had good grip power to keep people coming back.

Offline battles are still more popular than online unsurprisingly with over 11.7 billion matches played since December 2018.

Running the numbers for this reveals that players have participated in 473.6 offline fights.

Online battles are not far behind at 7.8 billion, which comes down to 314.8 games per player.

Finally, there were over 90 billion KOs scored, so users either knocked out opponents or were bombed 3,643 times on average.

Without Nintendo’s full data it is obviously impossible to calculate exact totals as matches can have up to eight players and not all will own a copy of the game, but this is the closest we can get right now.

Along with the combat stats, Sakurai also talked about how ridiculous a Smash Ultimate crossover is.

Of course, the monumental project ended with 89 playable characters counting Pokémon Trainer and Pyra / Mythra as separate entrances, although that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Between characters, objects, stages and spirits, Smash Ultimate offers a representation of 450 different game titles.

The total number of characters featured with fighters, assist trophies, stage backgrounds and more was over 2,200, and I’d hate to be the one to try to go back and name them all. .

For Smash-specific stats, Smash Ultimate ends its run with 116 unique stages, 201 items, over 1,100 songs, 1,496 spirits, and 140 sets of Mii Fighter costumes.

Seeing all of those numbers displayed like that really puts into perspective how much work and effort has gone into creating this game and the legacy that the Smash series has built over the past 20 years.

The slogan for Smash Ultimate was of course ‘Everyone’s Here’, and it’s definitely like that now.

Even though the game no longer receives updates after the release of Sora, Smash Ultimate will still live to see years of playing casually and competitively, so those crazy game numbers will only continue to grow steadily. .

It’s hard to imagine when, if ever, we’ll revisit a collaboration on this scale, and there’s no denying that this title is truly a celebration of the game in just about every way.
