Suspect arrested from “suspicious vehicle” at US Supreme Court, officials say

Capitol Police responded to a suspicious SUV outside the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday morning and used a flash bang to force the person out of the vehicle, authorities said.

Deputy Chief Jason Bell said the suspect “illegally parked” his vehicle outside the building at around 9:30 am Police identified him in a Tweeter as Dale Paul Melvin, 55, of Kimball, Michigan.

Officers responded immediately, but the Melvin declined to speak and made a statement that “the time to speak is over,” Bell said at a press conference.

“At that point, we backed off, our crisis negotiating officers attempted to speak to him. The man refused to speak,” Bell said.

Teams “moved in” around 11 am, took the man out of the vehicle and placed him under arrest, according to the deputy chief.

Bell said no weapons were found in the vehicle and investigators had no motive. The incident is still under investigation.

Melvin was arrested for non-obedience and assaulting police officer, Capitol cop says declaration.

Authorities said Melvin visited the Capitol Complex in August and “made statements regarding”. Police did not disclose any additional information about this incident.
