A suspect was arrested Thursday in the fatal shooting of a professional golfer at a country club course in Georgia, near where two other men were found dead in the bed of a pickup truck.

Bryan Rhoden has been arrested in connection with three murders and faces three counts of murder, three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping, Cobb County officials have said.

Rhoden, who was arrested in the Chamblee area, is believed to be the lone gunman, Cobb County Police Chief Tim Cox said Thursday evening.

The investigation grabbed national headlines after Gene Siller, an employee of the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Siller was killed after seeing a crime involving two other men, police said in a statement earlier this week.

He was on the 10th green at around 2:20 p.m. Saturday, police said. Two other bodies, both with gunshot wounds, were found in the bed of a nearby Ram 3500 pickup.

The other two victims have been identified as Henry Valdez, 46, of California, and Paul Pierson, 76, of Kansas. The truck was registered in Pierson’s name, and neither man appeared to have any connection with the Pinetree Country Club.

“Mr. Siller came across an ongoing crime involving the unknown suspect and the two deceased men who were found in the van,” a police statement said. “It does not appear that he was targeted in any way, but rather was killed because he witnessed an active crime in progress.”

Siller, who was in his 40s, was a staff member at the Pinetree Country Club and previously worked as a director of golf and professional golf chef at the Summit Chase Country Club, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.

Siller’s widow, Ashley, said Tuesday afternoon that “I love her very dearly and I am very sad.”
