According to Ferguson, agents spotted a person of interest near the intersection of Canal and Elk streets just after 6:45 pm. who they thought were involved in two armed robberies last week. When the uniformed police tried to question the person, the suspect took out a firearm and started shooting at them. An officer and an inspector fired back, causing a shootout in which five innocent bystanders were beaten while waiting at a nearby bus stop.
