The “Welcome to Wyandotte” sign on Ford Avenue and Fort Street was the unwitting target of a suspected drunk driver.
Wyandotte Police report that a woman from Lincoln Park crossed a red light on the night of September 6 and crashed into the sign.
Witnesses told police that the woman was unconscious when the car came to a stop.
After paramedics from the Wyandotte Fire Department medically cleared her, police retook the scene. Officers said there were clear signs of poisoning, but the woman either refused or was unable to complete the field sobriety tests. She was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
Police obtained a search warrant and had his blood drawn at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.
The incident, which was posted on the Wyandotte Police Department’s Facebook page, noted that the alleged drunk driving accident occurred on the second anniversary of the woman’s last surgery in drunk. Police said it was her fifth operation as she was arrested drunk.
