The man continued his journey but was stopped by the police about an hour later. Then it was discovered that the car contained 273 kg of crystalline methamphetamine, called "ice". It is estimated that the drug has a market value of 200 million USD – about 1.3 billion SEK.
"This is one of the easiest drug addictions ever perpetrated by New South Wales police," police chief Glyn Baker told Sydney Morning Herald newspaper.
Australia is struggling with a growing problem of methamphetamine. A government report released last year showed that the country had more drug users than most other countries in relation to the population.
The 26-year-old was charged with drugs and careless driving.
