GÖTEBORG In an article published in the Gothenburg Post, Professor Bo Rothstein gives a detailed critique of the "critical scientific studies" carried out at the University of Gothenburg.
Bo Rothstein, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg, is particularly interested in the new network of researchers of the School of Humanities, called VitKrit. Its purpose is to conduct research in what is called "critical scientific studies".
This area of research assumes that the white man has privileges and power around the world. The goal of VitKrit is to problematize "whiteness" in a human-scientific context.
"Being white is a factor of power in most societies, whereas it is a historical construction, because there are no whites, we all have different pigments, said Therese Svensson, one of the researchers at the origin of the network, to the journal GU Journal.
Bo Rothstein is critical of these ideas, which means that they do not belong to a university.
"One of the fundamentals of a university is that it is what you do, not what you are or the group you belong to that should be counted in. A network like WhiteKrit reverses this anomaly by accusing all those they define as "white" to gain unjust privileges and positions of power, "he writes:
"If this thought pattern is accepted and now seems to be the case within the Faculty of Humanities, you can say that the University of Gothenburg has de facto ceased to be a university."
Rothstein also believes that the network should be renamed "Critical Studies of Judaism". This is because Jews are overrepresented in the academic world, especially in the most prestigious schools in the United States. Jews account for almost 3% of the US population, but 20% of professors at major universities.
"Because I belong to this minority, I can very well show myself how many times he meets members of this small minority in different positions in the academy," Rothstein writes.
