Sweden has the highest diesel price in Europe at the moment, with new statistics.
This is due, among other things, to the fact that environmental requirements for diesel are higher in Sweden than in other countries.
"At the moment, Sweden has the highest diesel price in Europe, and we usually do not have it, it's usually Italy," said Ulf Svahn, CEO of Sweden. Swedish Institute of Petroleum and Biofuels, SPBI.
Sweden has its own quality requirements for diesel, environmental class 1, while environmental class 3 complies with EU requirements. A lower environmental class means higher environmental requirements, but also more expensive diesel.
"And after the reduction requirements, we have the biggest involvement in the world of biofuels in diesel. That's good because it reduces carbon dioxide emissions, but it makes it more expensive," says Ulf Svahn .
Crude oil cheaper
Crude oil prices have fallen by 30% since record prices reached in early October. He pushed prices for gasoline and diesel, which dropped eleven and seven percent, respectively.
After the last reduction of less than 25 öre, a liter of 95 octane gasoline on the stations with staff costs 14:41 SEK. A liter of diesel costs at the same time 15h61.
The price difference between gasoline and diesel is also unusually high at the moment, according to Ulf Svahn. Seasonal factors and the global market situation keep the price of diesel at a higher level.
Less heavy crude oil
In winter, the demand for diesel is the source of fuel oil and diesel. The fact that the price of diesel is now higher also partly reflects the favorable economic climate, which also means that more diesel is used in transport.
It is also the increase in the volume of American shale oil as the volumes of oil from, for example, Iran and Venezuela decrease.
– Then, the heavier crude oils containing more diesel disappeared from the market. According to Ulf Svahn, American shale oil is a light crude oil that contains a lot of gasoline.
