An unusually high number of people have suffered acute gastrointestinal disorders and bloody diarrhea in Uddevalla and surrounding areas, writes Bohusläningen. Eighteen people have been sick and health care has shown that the cause is the intestinal bacteria.

"I think this heat makes this kind of bacteria nice, and hot water is good for bacteria," Peter Nolskog, assistant surgeon for infections in the Västra Götaland region, told the newspaper.

The number of reported cases has increased throughout Västra Götaland, but in Uddevalla, the epidemic has been particularly high. The infection control unit is now trying to locate food or restaurant visits that may be at the root of the outbreak.
