"European Elon Musk" strengthens electric cars – Jaguar already featured in customer list

Europe's response to Elon Musk has Aston Martin and Jaguar in the customer list. Today, Mate Rimac wants to manufacture the best electric sports cars in the world.

The Croatian companion Rimac, founder of Rimac Automobili, has sometimes been nicknamed "the European musk Elon".

Both operate groundbreaking electric car companies and Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, who has chosen a somewhat unconventional mode for manufacturing in California. Rimac's production is located on the outskirts of the Croatian capital Zagreb.

When Tesla's first car, Roadstern, was launched in 2008, Elon Musk was 37 years old. Last year, the giant electric car produced 100,000 cars.

Rimac, who is only 30 years old, has not reached the same level of production as a dozen vehicles on the roads. But unlike Musk, who launched Tesla with Paypal's share capital, Rimac started to go home to the garage where he experimented with his parents' car.

He was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the poorest city in the country, and fled to Germany in the 1990s. At the age of 18, he bought a rusty old BMW that he would turn into in a rowdy electric car using old lead batteries.

The goal now is to manufacture the best electric sports cars in the world, writes the Financial Times.

The company also supplies batteries and power supplies to major car brands and already has an impressive list of customers ranging from Aston Martin to Jaguar.

During the past year, Rimac has withdrawn $ 50 million of capital and is about to close another round.

The first edition of Rimac Automobile – Concept One, is completed in 2011 with a maximum order of 8 vehicles.

Despite a slight growth rate, Rimac believes it does not want to increase volumes to hundreds of units and risk competing with the biggest bills of its own customers. Although there is still room to increase production, nothing concerns Rimac so far:

"What does the super-electric market really look like – honestly, no one knows, in any case, there are 8 designers anyway," he told the Financial Times.

The latest model launched in May, C_Two, will be produced at 150 copies at a price of 2.1 million dollars each.

Although he has often been compared to Elon Musk, he does not want to pretend that they are still playing in the same league.

"I admire it.Many people have wanted to introduce it to me, but I am not ready yet.I want society to reach a certain level above all else and we are still not there."
