Until now, it has been both dry and cold. Something that is changing now with more southerly winds.

"We have had cold air covering all of Sweden up to now, so on the road it is doing less everywhere in the country and since it is relatively dry, it is not necessary to get it down." says Maria Jönsson, meteorologist at SMHI.

But now, the wind is turning and from Wednesday, we expect sweeter and wetter south winds. A certain map is that it also stops the roads.

"As soon as the damp air sets in on Wednesday, the risk of frostbite will increase and it will be the worst in most parts of Götaland, Svealand and South Norrland." According to Maria Jönsson, the return to the house after work can be difficult in the afternoons and evenings.

In central and northern Norrland, however, the air is colder and drier.

Any warning regarding halking does not obtain it formally. The municipalities and the Swedish Transport Authority already know that the mild weather is approaching.

– This frosthite is easier to prevent than a so-called blixthalka that arrives in a few hours. It may be a good deal, but if the contractors do their job, it should help, "said Maria Jönsson.

If there were big traffic problems on Tuesday, the Swedish Transport Authority does not have an overall picture yet. However, contractors are aware of the roads.

– Yes, from 1 October, our subcontractors will be able to prepare for the winter. Sometimes the first snowfall already takes place in October and they are ready to go out, "said Katarina Wolffram, of the Swedish Transport Administration.
