Madagascar. At least 124 people lost their lives in the plague ravaging Madagascar. The ears have had annual epidemics of the disease since 1980, but this year seems to be more serious than before. The plague arrived in August earlier than usual, and so far 1,192 cases have been recorded, three times more than a "normal year", according to the authorities responsible for the disasters .
In addition, two-thirds of victims have a history of lung disease, a form of illness more serious than baldness.
The bacterial pest is usually transmitted to humans by flea bites. But this year, more cases were recorded in the capital, Antananarivo and in the country's second largest city, Toamasina, in the countryside. The Swedish Public Health Authority, which monitors the situation in Madagascar, writes that it is now likely that the spread of infection will occur directly between humans.
Parasites can cause high fever, headache, enlarged lymph nodes and the appearance of spots on the site. The lungs can also be attacked. Antibiotic treatment usually has a good effect.
