economy Volvo Cars is announcing plans to expand at the new plant in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, said Managing Director Håkan Samuelsson at USA Today.
The reason would be the higher tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on China.
The original plan was to employ 1,500 people in the factory by the end of 2018 and 4,000 in the next few years. Samuelsson does not say exactly how it will change.
The Charleston plant is the first of Volvo Cars in the United States and opened in June of this year.
We thought Charleston could build cars in China. It will not work, "said Samuelsson.
