Australia The Australian government proposes that the country's intelligence agents have more rights to use lethal violence abroad.

If the proposal is approved, Australian Subscription Service (ASIS) agents may be allowed to kill anyone who threatens to continue an effort. This, unlike today, where the fatal violence can only be used in case of self defense or to protect other Australian agents.

According to Foreign Minister Marise Payne, changing the law would mean that agents are allowed to use lethal violence, for example, to protect hostages. She also believes that change is necessary because of the growing threat that agents face on the ground.

"Our ASIS agents are working in dangerous places and in war conditions to protect Australia and our interests," said Marise Payne in a statement.

The bill must be approved by the country's parliament, where the Liberal government party does not have a majority. However, the Labor opposition party has positively opposed similar proposals.
