The PIP breast implants were manufactured by the French company Poly Implant Prosthesis.
The PIP implants were recalled in Sweden in March 2010 as a result of a decision by the Medical Products Agency. The release of these implants was not authorized on the Swedish market, according to the decision
Clinics operating in so-called PIP implants should contact the affected patients to inform them of the state of knowledge and risks associated with implant maintenance, according to the Swedish Medicines Agency and the National Board of Health.
The Swedish Medicines Agency and the National Board of Health recommend that clinics that have performed these operations remove PIP implants for prevention purposes. In addition, clinics should also encourage patients who retain PIP implants to pay attention to rupture or symptoms of chest inflammation.
