The Sylglaciary to the east of Jämtland has partially collapsed under the influence of heat.

– It broke out more than usual and some parts collapsed. This year it was very hot and a lot of the snow was gone and the cracks became very clear, "says Tomas Bergström, head of environmental monitoring at the Jämtland County Administrative Board.

Let the glaciers melt it's nothing new in itself. But that of Sylarna, now divided in two, indicates a more serious problem according to Tomas Bergström.

"It provides a clear visualization of the climate we have had in recent years and what we have today.All glaciers melt and shrink, but this is usually a long process that takes several years. Now he has torn more than usual, he says.

The reason the glacier collapsed is the warmest climate. But we still do not know what consequences a continuous warming could have in the region.

"Only this one is very small, but in general, glaciers provide fresh water, but I do not think there is a risk of water shortage, even if it disappears," he says.

Environmental monitoring authorities have documented the glacier on the border with Norway for more than a hundred years.

– It is documented since 1908, in the last 4-5 years, we take pictures every year. It was the moment I was there and I saw how many shots had been fired, "says Bergström.

At the same time, researchers at the Stockholm University glaciers who have carried out their own field studies and taken photos of the county's board of directors have seen major changes in the Sylglaciär glacier and in the Helags Glacier nearby in the last eight years (50 years ago),
