The Medical Products Agency has chosen to stop Apophem's prescription drug sales, which we talked about yesterday. This decision means that Apohem can not sell prescription drugs until it is proven that it is possible to provide all the medications covered by the drug law.
Johan Bergenheim, co-founder and CEO of Apohem, tells them they respect the decision. Obtaining permission is essential for them if they have to manage ambulatory pharmacies.
"It's our goal now," he says.
The online pharmacy was allowed to sell prescription drugs in August. Until now, they have not yet started selling these products and the Medical Products Agency has therefore decided to stop selling all drugs.
"We underestimated the complexity of the systems preparation and everything that needs to be put in. We asked permission a bit too early, we were just not ready," says Johan Bergenhem.
He also wishes to emphasize that the activities have not been stopped and that they have not lost any authorization. The ambition is still to sell both over-the-counter and prescription drugs and lift the ban by proving to the pharmaceutical agency that it can comply with the rules of the Medical Products Agency.
"The plan for us has been to sell prescription drugs before the end of the year and this plan is blocked.Till then we have taken prescription drugs from our site.
According to Johan Bergenheim, about 100 products were removed from the site while they were no longer allowed to sell prescription drugs. Something that, according to him, had no significant impact on their sales.
Apohem was launched in June. Behind the company are Axfood, Axel Johnson's Novax investment company, and e-commerce entrepreneurs behind Lenson. Only two months after the launch, Henrik Patzer, CEO of the company, decided to resign.
After stopping the drugs, they still sell pharmaceutical products such as skin care products, patches and pills.
