Britt Svensson lives in the retirement home and tells her that she was recently in the conservatory with three other residents. She says that she likes to sit under the three lights.

"You go down and sit there and you just cuddle, it's so good," she said.

Britt plans to visit the conservatory frequently and is also satisfied with the other changes made to Bäckliden retirement homes in Vinninga, Lidköping municipality. The retirement home has recently been the subject of a major reconstruction, as noted by the newspaper New Lidköping.

Among other things, there is now a library and a new meeting room on the premises. The range of activities has also been expanded, with more musical entertainment and a waffle coffee.

"That's fine, me and another young man are going to borrow books, it's always nice things here and now, even more so," said Britt.

In the sun room there is also a bar.

All retirees are welcome

What has become the most popular is the new solarium, says Ann Eriksson, Manager of Housing Management.

"We focus on future retirees, they are people who have traveled and now they still need their sun," she says.

Ann Eriksson tells her that she had taken her to the veranda when she went to other retirement homes for study visits. She discovered that some had built solariums and were very satisfied with the result.

And the door of the retirement home is also open to elderly seniors. The unit chief believes that they should also be able to participate in housing activities.

– About twenty elderly people a day visit the meeting place. They sit together in the porch and talk, says Ann Eriksson.

Retirees are invited to drink

In the conservatory, the elderly can sit on a sandy beach with the sea and blue sky. There are sunglasses to borrow and several sun loungers. The room includes wind and birds and the floor is a sandy beach.

– We say that they can choose if they want to go to Bali or Mauritius.

Retirees are invited to have a drink and enjoy the sun from three solid sun loungers.

"I think it helps physically and mentally. You need sunshine, I think it's important for older people to spend some nice and extended time," says Ann Eriksson, and continues:

– I like that. Older people thought it was a little crowded. When you're one hundred years old, you may think that it's not up to date, but then, they went here and thought it was fun.
