Cheap Monday goes to the grave. The very tight vest became popular in the early 2000s. The brand was created by JC Friberg, Lars Karlsson, Örjan Andersson and Linda Friberg, two colleagues of JC, in place of the expensive American designer with a size low and loose legs, as at the time. The name comes from what they considered the "cheapest" day of the week.
– After celebrating the weekend and eating pizza on Sunday, you get up on Monday without money. It's at this point that people are starting to stop among noodle packets to survive, "says Adam Friberg, who is in a food store in Milan when DN calls him .
In 2004, the sale exploded. Adam Friberg remembers the queues on Olofsgatan in Stockholm.
"A bus with students from Dalarna, who was in class, stayed in Olofsgatan before joining Vasamuseet," he says.
When H & M acquired In 2008, Fabric Scandinavien AB, the former group of JC colleagues, included, besides Monday Cheap, Weekday and Monki. The group then had about 300 employees and a sale of 250 million.
"When we got in touch with H & M, we probably had the same feeling as if you were getting the Nobel Prize," says Adam Friberg.
The founders had to divide 564 million SEK at the time of purchase,
according to SvD. Along with his wife, co-founder Linda Friberg, Adam Friberg moved abroad after leaving the company in 2011. Now, the spouses live in Florence and run a new clothing brand, AVAVAV, on a smaller scale and focused on sustainable development.
Has the brand been managed as you would have liked?
"We synchronized well with H & M in most cases – it was a good time," said Adam Friberg.
How do you think Cheap Monday is now closed?
– It's boring but I'm not particularly sentimental as a person. I guess it was a business decision that brought every stone, "says Adam Friberg.
