The vote was convincing at 51 to 1, and the proposal is now forwarded to the Senate.

According to the Childhood Foundation, about 85% of French parents physically punish their children. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child belongs to those who have urged France to ban all forms of child abuse.

If the bill were passed – France failed earlier – the country would be the 55th country in the world to ban childhood, an initiative launched by Sweden in 1979
