Here's Inside The Samsung Galaxy Fold – "Delicately Delicate"

The foldable Samsung Galaxy Fold mobile phone has had a difficult start. After several review phones broke down, the South Korean mobile giant decided to postpone the launch.

In many cases, the problems appear to be due to processing errors. The foldable screen has a protective film that should not be removed – something that reviewers have not noticed. But at least three phones broke down, even though the protective film must stay, according to The Verge.

At present, the component experts at the Ifixit technology site believe they have a possible explanation. They screwed a Galaxy Fold into its components and can say that the cell phone seems very sensitive to dirt and dust.

Great slips in construction

Ifixit finds several slips around the edges of the screen where dust can easily penetrate inside the phone. At the fold itself, for example, there is an opening of seven millimeters. If anything happens, it may get stuck under the sensitive OLED screen, which can quickly result in bulges, dead pixels or even a completely destroyed screen.

Ordinary cell phones are much more compact and their design rarely presents significant errors. In addition, the screen is protected towards the outside by a thick tempered glass. But, of course, there is no solution for a folding phone. The consolation is that the risk of bursting the screen is much lower, but what does it help if it can be damaged by dirt?

All is not black. Ifixit notes that the folding device itself seems robust and that the hinges seem strong enough to support the 200,000 plies promised by Samsung.

"Worrying delicate"

But again, there is a problem. Ifixit writes that there is nothing that protects the hinges from dirt and we now know that dirt can penetrate inside the mobile – and how do the hinges work if small? crumbs come in?

The summary evaluation of Ifixit is that the phone is "of a disturbing delicacy". They write that Samsung could add the extra time that they have now bought to organize some sort of protection against dust and dirt inside, which could make it more robust.
