The time has come to celebrate Father's Day, an American feast encouraged by commerce. For almost 90 years, we have been celebrating our fathers. The typical gift? Something that is strongly associated with traditional manhood.
"A popular gift for the human being is still a link, a very traditional symbol of manhood in the middle class, a little paradoxical," says Jonas Engman, an ethnologist at the Nordic Museum.
"This is the case with many rituals, they are often ashamed the curator.

Father's Day began to be celebrated in Sweden in 1931. The origin is American and the initiator was a woman who would pay homage to her own father – a widow who alone had seven children. A comforting theme that relates to the nuclear family of the present.

"Maybe you offer a little gift or drawing to the kids, but you give up and buy gifts?" Maybe common, but not serious, says Jonas Engman.
