The police now know who the woman was found dead in a hostel in Gothenburg. However, the link with the extremely toxic substance found is still unclear. "We have to wait for the forensic investigation," Tommy Nyman told the police.

The dead woman was found Thursday at lunch time in one of the rooms of a hotel near Slottsskogen. Nearby, a bag of white powder was found later, judging by the extremely toxic substance, sodium azide.

"According to the preliminary results, it is the sodium azide," said Tommy Nyman, president of the West West Police Chief.

– But we sent it in analysis to confirm it completely.

A major police initiative has been launched since the discovery of the suspect substance. 19 people who had been in contact with the substance were checked, but none of them showed any symptoms of injury.

Sodium azide is described as an explosive white powder, which can be dangerous even in very small amounts.

"This is a strange and unusual chemical product. We have few incidents in Sweden," said Mark Person, senior physician at the poison information center.

– One gram can suffice. The person may then suffer from a significant drop in blood pressure, cramps, loss of consciousness and difficulty pumping the heart.

The woman found dead was in her thirties and residing in Gothenburg. But still Friday afternoon, the police had failed to get parents to inform them.

The police are now waiting for the autopsy to find out if the woman has died as a result of the toxic substance or for any other reason.

"This is likely to happen next week, but in the meantime we are compiling the interrogations we had with anyone who may have had any contact with the woman at the hostel," said Tommy Nyman.

The case is closed until further notice due to the death of another person.
