Maritime Administration Looks Over Hooks for Helicopters

A portion of the Navy's helicopters have a hook for the water tank so that they can put out fires, but not all. Now the work is on for other helicopters to be refitted and hung up.

Since the 2004 Defense Ordinance, the Swedish Maritime Administration has no longer fires in its areas of responsibility, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot. Therefore, the Swedish Maritime Administration has chosen not to provide all its helicopters with hooks for the water tanks. They also chose not to train all their helicopter personnel in firefighting.

Hooks on helicopters have been highlighted as an alternative to firefighting in Sweden and the Swedish Maritime Administration is considering the possibility of rusting helicopters. At the same time, the Swedish Maritime Administration stresses that if this were to happen, their mission had to be extended and more money had to be given to work.

"We talked about the possibility of mounting hooks under the helicopters for which they are prepared, but that is something that would mean an extension of our mission," says Mattias Hyllert, director of maritime safety and Airborne Maritime Administration at Ekot
