A climate-neutral EU in 2050 is possible if everyone invites it, the European Commission believes in a new long-term climate strategy. Well – but aim higher, manages the environmental movement.

"Climate neutrality is necessary, possible and in the interest of Europe", says the Commissioner for Climate and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete, on the strategy adopted and to present at the year 's climate conference in Katowice, which will begin on Sunday.
In the strategy, eight different scenarios are described. The two most ambitious goals in terms of climate neutrality in 2050.
"This is absolutely feasible, which will of course require big investments and efforts, but it is possible," said Arias Cañete in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday.
If previous decisions are followed, the EU predicts a total of 2030 emissions of 45% over 1990 and 60% by 2050.
– The message from the Commission is that "it's good, but we have to do more". The question is, do we want to be the leader or just follow the others? Arias Cañete told Reuters.
Some environmental issues are endorsed by the Commission's strategy.
"An important signal for the world," said MP Jakop Dalunde (MP) in a statement, calling on the Commission to start acting faster than planned in the strategy.
The World Food Fund (WWF) is convinced that the goal itself must be achieved more quickly.
"We should aim for the year 2040," writes the WWF in a statement.
