In a Swedish study, five teenagers eat peanuts – against their allergy to nuts.
Doctors hope to extract reactions involving peanut, putting their lives in danger.
"The goal is not to resist huge amounts of peanuts, but they will not get enough of the small quantities," says Caroline Nilsson, Sydsvenskan's child-allergic physician.
Five teenagers are included in the new study. Two of them eat peanuts every day while being protected by drugs.
Every two or four weeks, they receive a syringe of drugs that cause severe allergic asthma.
Caroline Nilsson directs the study at Södersjukhuset in Stockholm. She added that the study had been launched because of the large number of children and adolescents admitted to emergency with allergic reactions caused solely by peanuts and nuts.
A first result should be completed in about two years.
