Some hackspots may have cracked brain lesions, according to researchers who will deepen the issue. Stock Photography.
During his life, a woodpecker enters his head in trunks thousands of times. And now, American researchers have found signs that this could have consequences. In the brains of birds, they found traces of the protein rope, which in humans is associated with brain damage.
– It has been assumed that the peaks are not damaged to the brain. But this research seems to indicate otherwise, says George Farah, who worked with the study, whose results were published in Plos One.
In the next step, researchers will try to determine if the presence of a rope is actually an indication of a brain injury or if it has rather a protective effect.
