It was along the road to the outside Uppsala Last October, the bus driver started to feel bad and turned to a place of rest. At high speed, towards the resting place where a tanker was parked, the busy driver floated and panic broke out on the bus which contained about 50 passengers. One of the passengers, Göran Hallqvist, rushed to the driver's seat and took the wheel.
"I've been a skipper for 20 years and I'm a regular heavyweight rider, I thought we can not stop this way, I grabbed the wheel, but I did not reach the cruise control. But I could stay away and we are back on the road, says Göran Hallqvist, who could wake up the driver who could brake on the police website.
All passengers managed without damage and the hero Göran Hallqvist was recently awarded the National Gold Medal of the Police Authority.
– You showed a fantastic opportunity. We usually say that you have to be careful and appeal to the police, but sometimes you do not get it. Then it's important to act and you're a great role model, said Rikspolischef Anders Thornberg during the ceremony held at the Kungsholmen police station i Stockholm.
About the National Police Medal
The police authority awards medals to citizens to show their appreciation for their commendable efforts beyond the ordinary. Medals are a trademark that also means public recognition. The distribution of medals is an old tradition and appreciated by the Swedish administration and the Swedish police system.
Citizen medals may be awarded by decision of the Regional Police Officer, National Operations Head, Noa, or the National Police.
