The preschool classes have, as of this year, a separate part of the elementary school program, LGR 11, and the section on physical activities and outreach does not mention swimming lessons. In addition, curricula have adopted languages, aesthetic expressions, mathematical reasoning, nature and technology, as well as digital tools in different contexts.

Annie Lundin, director of the Munksund School, sighs a little when some parents and politicians protest against the new focus on swimming lessons. When the demonstrations took off, planning for the continuing training of swimming lessons was still unclear:

– The preschooler received weekly visits to the pool, but the time needed to reach other program goals. At present, they exercise an hour outside every day and risk going to the pool twice a semester, says Annie Lundin.

Safaa Iounes, Class 4, was enthusiastically coached and told her that it was only now that she thought it was fun to swim.

The objectives of the program for classes 1 to 3 are that children can float and swim in the spine and that in class 6, they will be able to swim over 200 m, including 50 m in the spine.

Hanna Hoff teaches sport and health at Munksund School and assumes responsibility for teaching when children enter first class:

– We will keep regular visits to the pool during the second year and we will constantly monitor the children's swimming skills. Students who need more time in the pool will of course get it to achieve the goals of grade six, "says Hanna.

For Irene Store, head of unit at Idrottshuset, the new teaching presentation according to which the Munksund School did not work surprisingly is:

Lyne Issa, Class 6, as well as fifth-year Geovyne Issa and Merna Hanna, practiced swimming and jumped off the starting stack during the lesson.

"It is very common in other municipalities to run intensive swimming lessons instead of Enköping every week, with pre-school and then second-class courses, which can be more effective in intensive courses, and I think that this can be a benefit for water-conscious children who can be harassed if there is a week or more between pool visits, "says Irene Store.

Annie Lundin and Hanna Hoff hope that critics of the new structure will trust the profession and respect it, and that a more detailed management of the political details of the school's internal work is not a solution:

– The pool visits took a lot of preschool classes. With the new program, we need to change the work and we think it's for the better of the students, says Annie Lundin.
