The Makasssar Highway ship more wounded than beaten

The investigation of the leak of oil from the failed ship is underway. Coastal monitoring also works intensively with remediation work.

At the same time, there is a group of the Coast Guard that monitors the oil drainage of the ship. The emptying is done by a salvage company who investigated the condition of the vessel.

– The boat is very broken at the bottom. But now we have received indications from this rescue company that the damage is even greater than expected, says Anna Lindblad.

Damage can be found both in the hull and in the oil tanks. On Tuesday, the dredge diver will dive again to get a better picture of the boat. The fact that it is on the bottom and that it has a flat hull makes it more difficult for divers to see exactly the extent of the damage, Anna Lindblad explains.

What does damage mean?

– It becomes even more important to empty the oil from the vessel before attempting to tow it. For now, she is not leaking oil. But it will take several days to empty the ship on oil, says Anna Lindblad and continues:

– This is a serious situation and we are following this closely.

On Monday, the Coast Guard continued to collect oil. On Sunday, you managed to collect 7 tons of oil, but the success was not as important on Monday.

– When the oil will be spilled, it will be in the same volumes, says Anna Lindblad.

The effort is stepped up to save the oil coast

Since yesterday the Coast Guard was blocked by the mainland and Huvudskär just south of the Olsklabb lighthouse.

It is Sunday that the founding ship of the Småland coast came from the ground that it was.

It never destroyed lakes that previously limited oil spills, which prevented oil from being locked up.

On Sunday afternoon, early reports revealed that oil had escaped the cargo ship.
