A staircase of the Eiffel Tower in Paris was sold at an auction of 170,000 euros, or 1.7 million crowns.

The upper part of 4.3 meters was part of the spiral staircase that was once between the plans of the second and third floors. Artcurial thought before selling that it would bring in between 40,000 and 60,000 euros.

The staircase, which was part of the original construction of 1889, was removed at the same time as a seismic building from 1983 and belonged to a private collection in Canada.

The buyer is described as a collector of the Middle East.
