The offense committed by the two footballers following the match-fixing scandal in the context of the match between IFK Göteborg and AIK last year was widely rewarded.
According to the prosecution, they will have tried to convince AIK guard Kenny Stamatopoulos to accept bribes to influence the outcome of the match. Just Stamatopoulos was one of the main witnesses in the trial that took place on Thursday in the Stockholm District Court. It focused mainly on what had happened in this Stockholm restaurant, where the two pursued men and Stamatopoulos had met.
When the goalkeeper testified against both players, he told her that he thought that he had risked his life had he accepted the offer as he had said the duo.
I wondered what would happen if I could not influence the match as they wished. They said that it was not a problem, but I said, "This is not how it works, I would be killed," Kenny Stamatopoulos said in his testimony.
The prosecutor Johan Lindmark believes that the meeting at the restaurant can only be interpreted in a certain way.
In my opinion, there is no room for a misunderstanding on the part of Kenny Stamatopoulos, "said Lindmark, who is seeking two years in prison.
"Absolutely unique"
Defense lawyer Johan Åkermark says the goal is a classic word-word:
I mean it's a word-for-word word for word. Everything comes from Kenny Stamatopoulos. By the way, there is no evidence. Kenny says that he was very shocked. And it is clear that you are so shocked that you can interpret the situation incorrectly.
Åkermark says that no one claimed that the former player had taken part in a discussion about the money.
I think there is not enough evidence of support for Kenny's version, "said the lawyer.
Both former players deny the allegations.
Crying in front of the court
One of them starts crying in court when asked if he offered a bribe to Kenny Stamatopoulos.
The worst thing is that I did not have the opportunity to tell my version. It's not a joke to lose his name, he says.
When the other ex-accused player testifies, he describes the conversation with Kenny Stamatopoulos as easily.
He said that "there are some guys who have offered me money for rigged matches". He said that they had offered me between 200,000 and 500,000 euros and that I told them, "Well, you would not have done it for two million then"?
It was a deadly question, one could say "you would run naked in town for 500,000 people". But that is the question that makes us sit here today.
The verdict of the district court will be announced on December 6 at 11 am
