Saturday after 1 pm, a truck with two people received a rope at Bårhultsmotet on Highway 40 east of Gothenburg. The truck was heading towards Borås and crossed the guardrail to stand straight on the opposite road.
"A 50 year old car and a 35 year old woman drove under the truck and both front seats died instantly," said Johan Ljung, police chief in Västra Götaland.
The couple is barely ten years old The children at the rear survived the accident with minor physical injuries. The family is home to Älvsborg County.
The cause of the accident is not yet known. According to the police, it is not slipping.
Another car heading for Gothenburg went into the damaged cars, but its occupants managed without physical damage. Neither the two in the truck had to be taken to the hospital.
Eight ambulances and a helicopter was sent to the site.
A heavy haulier and a rescue truck have been working there for a few hours and at 7:30 pm the police have estimated that the work would take another two hours. The road is closed towards Gothenburg.
