Unusual discovery: In October, a hunter found in a damaged ATM machine a cash machine in the Herrenwald in Hünenberg, as announced Thursday by the forces of order in Zug. The police investigation had revealed that it was a bitcoin machine that had been stolen about a year ago in Zug.
According to the message, the unknown author broke through the automaton. Nevertheless, they did not go to the loot: 3,000 francs were still available and were secured by the police. The result was material damage of several thousand francs.
The machine was stolen on October 20, 2017. The unknown culprit had stolen the 90-kilogram automatic machine according to Zentralplus at Lakeside Business Center in Zug.
Burglars needed a lot of time
This is not an easy undertaking: "On the surveillance camera images, you can see that the author worked for hours, until he solved all the problems and released the machine," said managing director Mathias Ruch at the online portal.
"So, if anyone feels that you can come in, squeeze the machine under the arm and come out, then it has a completely wrong picture." Only until it's close of the machine, the thief should have opened at least three doors.
Bitcoins well secured
Either way, the chances of getting Bitcoins were minimal. So you can not just transfer bitcoins if you steal a machine. Generally, bitcoins are protected by so-called private keys. These are only partially stored locally on these devices – and even if the entire key is stored locally, they are highly encrypted. "Much more likely, they wanted only the money that they contained," says Christian Mäder of Bitcoin Switzerland on the online portal.
