Does Time Create Facts?

This risk exists. Americans have a very liberal approach. They allow to flourish and regulate abuse only when they have occurred. This gives them a significant advantage over Europe. In our case, the precautionary principle dominates and we risk being left behind.

Your company has also opened a second office in Phoenix, Arizona. Why?

America sets the tone in our new business areas Cibersecurity and Internet of Things. America is a big single market. Europe is 28 markets. The EU's internal market works well for merchandise trade, but not for the digital economy. The pace of change between the United States and Europe is very different

What do you think about economic development in Switzerland?

I am very confident, but I see that economic activities related to the state acquire greater macroeconomic importance. In the long run, this is not positive for wealth creation

Do you pay too much tax?

No, in our sector, we have no problem with the current level of corporate taxes in Switzerland. However, I think that natural persons are sometimes overloaded.

Do you live in Vaud?

I am now domiciled in the United States, but I also pay taxes in Switzerland – where I live part of the year

And the franc?

I think it's very expensive. And I fear it costs other jobs in Switzerland

Should we give up the luxury of having our own currency?

No, the Swiss franc is important for Switzerland. The problem is the euro. The construction is complex and I am not sure that it stays on the right path. The euro has created far too many constraints for the member countries

How is the economy in Romandie?

We are currently experiencing a great momentum of innovation. This may have something to do with the fact that we were lagging in the 1990s. There is now more risk to take on our side

Superior compared to German-speaking Switzerland?

Being in a comfortable position naturally leaves you with less risk appetite. But innovation is also migrating. In the past, California was a more peripheral economic region

Should Francophone Media Need to Be More Innovative?

Much of our private media no longer belongs to the people of the region. When I see the pressure on the media everywhere, it is clear to me that little Romandie has a big problem with the diversity and the autonomy of its media.

Many successful entrepreneurs buy famous newspaper titles. Is this the solution?

I wonder if it is desirable. The question of how we should protect and maintain our democracies will have to occupy us in the coming decades. But let's talk about it another time.
