Last week, the Knesset passed by 62 votes to 55 the national law of the state, which consecrates Israel as the "national homeland of the Jewish people". Above all, Arab lawmakers fear that the law will undermine earlier efforts to bring further improvements, such as the legal anchoring of Arab subtitles in television and cinema or in the area of sign language.

It seems so important that the coalition is ready to accept world criticism and darken the relationship with Jews in the diaspora. Of course, it is a deliberate act of the right-wing conservative government, with which Netanyahu wants to perpetuate itself in a "crucial moment in the annals of Zionism and the state of Israel."
No, the new law does not make Israel a state of apartheid. In reality, nothing will change. But the words democracy and equality are not the result of chance in the law. Self-determination and equality are granted to minorities in the country only at a private level and not as a minority. This is ensured by the passage which reserves the "realization of the right to national self-determination in Israel only to the Jewish people". This is not new either. Nothing has changed, we have it now only in writing.
