The French parliament decided to ban mobile phones in French schools. Liberals and ruling party members The Republic in March voted on Monday at the last reading in the National Assembly for the settlement, while representatives of left-wing and conservative parties abstained. The initiative was a campaign engagement of President Emmanuel Macron . The opposition sees a deceptive solution.
The ban on mobile phones will apply to kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. It affects children and students aged 3 to 15 years. French high schools have the possibility to introduce a mobile phone ban, but are not required to do so
Complete ban
The new regulation totally prohibits Internet devices such as telephones mobiles, tablets and smartwatches. and during school activities also outside the school building. There are exceptions to the use of teaching itself and children with disabilities.

Since 2010, France already has a law prohibiting the use of mobile phones during classes. The Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, however felt that the previous regulation was less effective. This does not apply at the national level and does not have a solid legal basis.
"Message to Society"
The new law promotes France "in the 21st century," he said. "He sends a message to the French society" as well as to other countries of the world.
Nearly nine out of ten French youth aged 12 to 17 have a smartphone. Proponents of the new law argued, among other things, that the use of the mobile phone disrupted the classroom, the school climate and reduced physical activity in school classes.
Critics of the ban said the previous regulation was sufficient. They also warned of the "logistical problems and costs" of storing mobile phones. (chk / AFP)
