Severe winter conditions severely affected airport and road traffic on Monday in parts of the United States. Due to a severe snowstorm, nearly 1,500 flights had to be canceled in the Midwest, while weather conditions had already caused 1,200 outages the day before. Once again, the O 'Hare airport in Chicago has focused on 1,189 canceled flights, US media reported.
According to the National Weather Agency, the snowstorm is expected to move northeasterly Tuesday (local time). Heavy rains were expected on the west coast of the United States and snow at high altitude.
About 200,000 households without electricity
Already Sunday, thousands of passengers were stranded at various airports in the region at the end of the long weekend of Thanksgiving. Due to snowy or icy highways, travelers could not avoid alternative routes.
The winter season continued to hit the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana on Monday. In Illinois, some 200,000 households sometimes have no electricity, most of them in Chicago's metropolis on Lake Michigan. On the border with Wisconsin to the north, the snow was 30 inches high.
