Graubünden advisers received 15 year defective salary certificates

The advisers in Graubünden have been receiving faulty salary cards for 15 years. Travel time compensation was declared erroneous. Parliamentarians must now pay their taxes in the last ten years.

In addition, social security contributions are due for the last five years, as announced on Thursday the Cantonal Department of Finance and Municipalities.

The mistake came with compensation, which politicians receive for the trip to Chur. Travel time will be rewarded. The cantonal personnel office falsely declared these payments on the salary statements as expenses and not as wages. As a result, the amounts were neither taxed nor offset by the AVS and AI contributions.

The mistake made during the introduction of compensation for the duration of the trip in 2003 and was only discovered recently, as the statement said. For the current year, for the first time, appropriate salary certificates will be issued.

2.25 million francs declared wrongly

The compensation amounts to a total of 150,000 francs a year for all the members of the Grand Council composed of 120 members. In total, a payroll of 2.25 million francs was declared erroneous.

After taxes are now owed at 1.5 million francs, 0.75 million francs are no longer taxed. Social security contributions are charged to a payroll of 0.75 million francs. It rises to 19,000 francs a year, or nearly 100,000 francs in total.

Politicians are welcome to pay even though they are not responsible for the debacle, as the township has pointed out. In order to clarify and ensure legal certainty for the future, the rules of procedure of the Grand Council should be adapted to the next December session. (Aeg / SDA)
