Heilbronn (dpa) – After a collision with four dead and four seriously injured on the A81, investigators are faced with many questions. Even hours after the accident, it was still unclear why the ten vehicles, including three light trucks, crashed into each other.
It was examined, among other things, whether the rain could have led to the accident on the road between Ahorn and Boxberg. The only sure thing was that the road was wet at the time of billiards Saturday afternoon.
The motorway towards Stuttgart was released only early Sunday morning after closing hours. Two of the lanes were first closed because of the impact of the accident and the road surface had been damaged.
The details of the victims of the accident were not available until Sunday morning. A body lay on the street for hours because it had to check whether the last victim had sat in one of the cars or had been captured.
A police spokesman said that he could not remember such a serious accident in the Heilbronn area. For emergency services, it was a very stressful situation. The policeman spoke of a "vast field of rubble" and "very complex accidents". Due to the suspension of several hours, the police hijacked the waiting cars – which was in a traffic jam, was allowed to turn and return in the direction of travel to the next exit.
Police were called to the scene of the accident around 4 pm Saturday afternoon, with a total of one hundred rescuers, police and firefighters in action. In addition to many ambulances and ambulances were three rescue helicopters and a police helicopter on the site.
The most serious wounded were transported by helicopter to various hospitals, including Mannheim and Würzburg. An expert and several emergency counselors were also in action at the scene of the accident.
