Apple is in the lead and Nokia in the lead – 8 new facts in the Swiss mobile phone market
A representative market survey by comparis.ch shows the most popular smartphones in Switzerland. There are surprises!
Here are the essential facts:
Older users do it respectful of the environment better than boys
Every young adult has his old cell phone dusted in the drawer, writes Comparis.
For people of average age, this proportion is 30%. And only a fifth of the over 55s do not do anything with the old device.
People aged 56 to 74, for their part, were "the most environmentally friendly" according to the announcement: in this generation, the proportion of mobile phone holders with 22% is the highest.
Without surprise: With the "medieval" users (aged 36 to 55), the second use of old smartphones by the offspring takes with nearly a third.
Jean-Claude Frick, digital expert:
"The production of smartphones requires a high proportion of rare raw materials, so you must dispose of old mobile phones in a professional manner or continue to use and do not leave dust in the drawer.
Older cell phones must be returned to the wireless service provider or the manufacturer for disposal.
We digressed for the environment! But now we come to the most popular mobile phones in this country …
Android is the most popular operating system
According to the Swiss Comparis survey, the market share of Google's Android operating system exceeds that of Apple's iOS: 56% of smartphone owners use an Android device, 44% use an iPhone.
As a result, Apple could increase its market share by 3 percentage points (previous year: 41%). Google has increased Android by 2 percentage points (previous year: 54%). The big loser should be Microsoft with its Windows smartphones. This is not mentioned in the message.
Samsung falls behind Apple
Behind the leader of the Apple market (see above), Samsung dominates the Swiss smartphone market. Comparis, the South Koreans however had to be "feathered" compared to the previous year. The market share of the largest manufacturer of Android is 36% (39% in 2017).
Huawei in 3rd place, with a small market share
According to the Comparis study, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei was able to retain third place. Contrary to the global trend, the second largest manufacturer in the world holds only 8% of the Swiss market. The latest generation models, rented by critics, have not yet reached the customer.
Nokia regains market share
Veteran Nokia celebrates his return to Switzerland, Comparis. The Finnish manufacturer of smartphones now ranks fourth, with a market share of 3%, the cult brand has outperformed its Japanese competitor Sony.
The iPhone 7 is the most popular mobile phone
Most Swiss currently use an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus from Apple, Comparis writes. The proportion is 10%. For Android smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge would be the most used (9%).
And the new models?
Apple already figures in the top 10 with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X introduced a year ago. In contrast, the current flagship Android product Samsung Galaxy S9 and the new Note models do not yet appear among the most popular smartphones in Switzerland.
Budget-conscious Android users keep their bones longer
The Comparis expert:
"At Apple, consumers have always been used to high device prices, but Android users are still waiting at lower prices. The new, more expensive Samsung smartphones are obviously not meeting these expectations. "
As a result, Android users would keep their devices longer. For example, Samsung Galaxy S5 and S6 models over three years old and cheaper Galaxy A models still figured in the top 10.
Swiss people want to change or buy
The vast majority of smartphone users in this country have recently changed devices, according to Comparis:
One-third of respondents own the current smartphone for less than a year. 44% say they own the device for one to two years. And only one in five uses the phone for 3 years or more.
It was like that before
In November 2017, according to Watson, "the iPhone remains king in Switzerland, closely followed by Samsung" …
