Buddy Holly – the day the music is dead

He went into history as a rebel rock'n'roll with horn-rimmed glasses. With his songs, the American musician Buddy Holly has inspired a whole generation. Today, 60 years ago, his young life ended abruptly.

On February 3, 1959, a heavy snow storm raged in the north of the US state of Iowa. Buddy Holly and his fellow musicians Ritchi Valens ("La Bamba") and "The Big Bopper" ("Chantilly Lace") had just given a concert and had to move on to their next concert. They climbed into a single-engine propeller engine – but did not go very far. The plane crashed near Mason City, the detainees were all dead at the same time.
