In a bus accident north of Lübeck on Saturday evening, 46 people were injured, mostly children and teenagers. The bus was en route to a summer camp with 42 children, five caregivers and the driver on board when he collided with an ambulance. Most of the participants in the accident were slightly injured, the police said. However, two people, including a child and presumably a caregiver, had to be transported to a seriously injured clinic.

On a country road between Lensahn and Cismar north of Lübeck, the ambulance arrived on mission. According to the police, a driver in front of the bus wanted to turn left, but waited for the ambulance to arrive in the opposite direction. The driver of the bus should then have driven to the opposite lane to overtake the car at a stop. He came to a collision with the ambulance.

"The ambulance overturned and slid a few meters down the road," said a police spokesman. A side wall at the rear of the vehicle and a door at the back were demolished. The bus exited the road and stopped with a severely damaged forehead on an embankment. Another small car was also involved in the accident and was damaged.

In addition to the fire department and several police cars, there would have been more than 30 relief vehicles on the scene. Two rescue helicopters took the seriously wounded to hospitals. Another 20 wounded were taken to clinics, as announced by the regional fire department of the fire department. Among them was the two-headed crew of the ambulance.

According to the police, the children on the bus were between 10 and 15 years old. They were with their caregivers at the return of an event. Several children were brought back to camp at night, where, according to the regional headquarters, they received pastoral care.
