In the new RTL format, "dog against cat" must be determined which animal is the best. Mirja Boes and Martin Rütter represent the competition on behalf of. The result is a humorous show rather useless in primary school.
In some life issues, people are irremediably opposed. iPhone or Android? Borussia Dortmund or Schalke? Playstation or Xbox? Beatles or Rolling Stones? Dog or cat? On many of these topics, one thing excludes the other. This should not be the case with a dog or a cat.
Although both pets are more skeptical because of their different body language, there are many homes in Germany where dogs and cats coexist peacefully. RTL was the so-called rivalry that still deserved a complete show: "Dog vs. Cat – Rütter vs. Boes" was held on Wednesday night.
Fortunately, the worst fears proved to be unfounded: dogs and cats were not hunted together. Instead, there was a proxy duel, set up by dog trainer Martin Rütter against comedian Mirja Boes, a declared lover of cats.
Both were supported by their respective fanbase, a large group of blue-robed dog fans and a grandstand with orange cat friends. The highlight, however, was another platform with 300 people without animals. These "non-pet owners" were allowed to vote after each round if Team Dog or Team Cat had done better.
Dog against Cat: dog muscle or sore muscles?
The evening was hosted by Ruth Moschner, who, in her dress with black and white dots, was reminiscent of a referee. Then it started, "Fitness" was the first category in which the team dog and the team cat were delivering a tough competition. "Dogs and their owners are in better shape and in better health", was Martin Rütter's thesis.
Rejecting this statement was not, after all, meaningless to throw a frisbee cat. Or start with it at a forest of 20 kilometers running in the rain. Which is not bad. No one would think of sending Angelique Kerber to the shot put. Or something like that.
Mirja Boes has done her best to win Team Cat. Muscle dog or sore muscles? Boes asked and the cat blocked his cries of joy and roared.
Then, Boes and Rütter had to put on their fur costumes and embark on a journey with flip-flops and four-legged tunnels. At least here, all viewers should have known what to expect in the next two hours.
Rütter: "I was so ashamed"
The other jokes summed up: Boes and Rütter had to disguise themselves as professionals in a pet shop, the other was allowed to give instructions via a microphone and a button to the ear. Both had to bark, imitate a seal or hide in the freezer. Humor at the primary level.
"Although we are used to being in front of the camera, it was incredibly humiliating, I was so ashamed," said Rütter, once the player finished. "Thanks RTL for this new low point of the TV you have awarded me," added Boes. And we were not sure if she thought it was funny or if it was bitter.
Later in the program, a women's jury evaluated the attractiveness of single men, once with a dog and once without a dog. Surprisingly, the man-pet combo has reached a higher rating.
Boes and Rütter had to pedal on an ergometer, then watched the two videos of dogs and cats and the measures were taken. Their pulse first passed under 90 beats. Finally, the models Angelina Kirsch and Paul Panzer supported the two candidates in the last rounds.
Short victory for the cat team
The match ended almost 3: 2 for the team chat / Boes. After two hours of extended antenna time, that did not win at all because the "non-animal owners" were deciding with the "main question", which had won because: dog or cat?
And now the cats had just come back again. Therefore, the winner, Mirja Boes, should also receive the word of the end here. "This is the low point of my television career," she explained before she was forced to dress up as a cat suit on an agile course. There is not much to add to that.
Cats do what they want, are moody and uneducated. But in reality, four-legged friends are not as stubborn as many people think. The problem often lies in the communication between humans and animals!
