The MotoGP stars took their time on the first day of testing in Jerez, and after only about two hours, Mir, Lorenzo and his company started doing tricks. At 1 pm Danilo Petrucci was the fastest.
On Wednesday and Thursday in Jerez, the last MotoGP tests before the winter break are on the program. When the fire turned green at 9:30 am on the first day, no driver was in sight for a long time. The track was dry and the sun was visible, but the outside temperature was still below 10 degrees Celsius. Even at 11 o'clock, no pilot had ventured onto the runway at 15 degrees.
The fact that Aleix Espargaró did not have his Aprilia Tuesday was already clear: the Spaniard spent the night because of gastritis in the hospital. On his Instagram profile, however, he expressed hope that he could participate in the second day of testing.
After just under two hours, two Suzuki drivers made their first laps on the "Circuito de Jerez": MotoGP rookie Joan Mir, who set the first time in 1: 42.829, and the test driver Sylvain Guintoli.
Jorge Lorenzo, Honda's new rookie, quickly took over after three quick laps, and will soon be replaced by Suzuki rider Álex Rins (1: 40.829). Jack Miller was also on his way.
Gradually, more and more pilots made their first laps. At noon, the first rider stayed under 1:40 min with world champion Marc Marquez, while Yamaha factory riders were still in the pits.
Ducati's Danilo Petrucci was fastest with a time of 1: 39.127, followed by teammate Andrea Dovizioso (+0.117 sec) and Repsol-Honda Márquez (+0.298 sec).
Shortly after, the session was interrupted by a fall of me at 13:03. The MotoGP rookie was taken to the medical center for a check.
Incidentally, Jerez drivers can choose between a soft and medium rear tire. Here again, the new mixture is used, which has already been tested in Valencia and should provide, according to the Michelin tire supplier, better adhesion and more continuity. A new front tire is also available in Jerez. It fits between the hard and medium tires and widens the range by a choice.
